While visiting Petersburg there is an assorted number of things to see and do.
There is a large system of old logging roads, which are kept up by the Forest
Service These roads are a great way to get out into the wild easily, and quickly. One of these
roads, three lakes loop, leads to three different boardwalks that wind their way back into
the woods to Sand, Hill, and Crane lakes. All three lakes are great places to picnic, swim
or row around in forest service provided boats. Just a couple miles out of town, on the
north eastern side of the island is Sandy Beach Picnic area. Sandy Beach has two large
covered picnic areas, a playground, and sand volleyball courts. Just down the beach are
the "Indian Rocks," a grouping of ancient Tlingit Petroglyphs. This rock art was made by
the Tlingit Indians, who used the area for a fish camp. Down the road from main street is
Eagle's Roost Park, which a very nice park that is strategically located to watch the
dozens of eagles who sit in the trees next to the cannery. In the middle of the town is
the Clausen Memorial Museum, which documents Petersburg's history, ans well as the history
of the surrounding area. For more information or a longer list of things to do in Petersburg,
